A collection of photographs and articles about the community of Springwood, curated by Rena Worthen, who adds as background information the following,
"Over the years, we have seen the following names: True Blue, Old Hickory, Jackson, and Springwood. The Penn farm called Springwood, and the name of the Village of Jackson changed to Springwood when the C & O Railroad got freight confused for other Jackson Locations.
Many of the residents of Springwood ancestors traced to the pioneer families that settled the area.
Jackson once supported warehouses, a hotel, and a large brick flower mill established in 1848
Springwood is located in the Northern half of Botetourt County, about halfway between Buchanan and Fincastle. It is primarily rural, with Springwood Road serving as the main thoroughfare. The community defined by the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and the presence of the James River that flows near the historic center of town." - Image 1 - Sign, which reads, "WELCOME TO SPRINGWOOD"

The old Brewbaker place above, in teh Springwood Valley, was built in 1838 by Abraham Brewbaker. The main part of the house was built of logs and was moved one mile west to its present location. Large rooms with huge fireplaces compose the front of the house. The outside is weatherboarded. In the large cellar are time stained rafters in good state of preservation. Abraham Brewbaker married Miss Anna Dill and was the father of six sons, the late Captain Brewbaker being one of them. His two daughters, Mrs. Willie Harlow and Mrs. Kate Hammitt and four sons, Messrs. A. J., H. M., E. B., and L. L. Image 22 - a 1938 newspaper article in the Fincastle Herald, which reads,
"Seek to Retain Agent
At Springwood
A petition circulated here recently and widely signed asking the C. & O. Railway Company to continue the Agent and Express office at Springwood. The Company had recently given notice of intention to discontinue the office there. It is felt here that such discontinuance would cause much inconvenience here as well to the patrons living at Springwood. Mail and express both come here from Springwood as well as from Troutville, and it would cause much trouble especially in receiving express at that office, to local patrons not to have an agent there." -

Mrs. Louise Craft has suffered the loss and injury of some thirty fowls recently by the lowly night raiders. Mr. B. C. Obenshain and Mr Robert Thrasher have also been the victims of the marsupial raids.
