- The Berkley Arms Hotel was constructed in 1891, but burned down shortly before being completed, on October 26, 1891. It was constructed by Hoover, Hughes, & Co. of Pittsburgh for the Central Land Co. of Buchanan at a cost of $100,000, but insured for only $57,000.
