- Col. George Wilson Hammond was born July 24, 1828 to Petter Hammond and Margaret Houseman Hammond. He married Emaline Mason Scott Hammond. He served in the Confederate Army and was killed in action at Battle of Cloyd's Mountain, Pulaski Co., VA. He is buried at Hammond-Henderson-Houseman Cemetery.
