"MATTHEW FENNELL
In the early morning of Friday, Aug. 20, 201, God quietly stepped in and eased Matthew Odell Fennell into His arms and carried him into a sunlit path to a new land of peace and rest. Matt, as family and friends affectionately knew him was 82, born April 15, 1939 in Botetourt County, the second of six children born to the now late Margaret Freeman and Warring Franklin Fennell.

He attended the Botetourt County School System if you knew Matt you know he loved trucks. He and his brother, Warren 'Big Boy' owned and operated F & F Asphalt Paving for a number of years. Then, Matt was a long distance big rig truck driver but returned to asphalt paving, owning his own company and trucks. And as life would have it, Matt and his brother, Warren, both drove dump trucks throughout Northern Virginia for a number of years. Those who knew Matt knew he loved his trucks and working on them. He was also known for sharing a few 'good' stories with those he loved and spent time with.

In addition to his parents, Matthew was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Warren and John Fennell, and one sister, Viola Fennel Williams.

Matthew leaves to rejoice in his memory, his son, Matthew O. Fennell, Jr. (Sharon Garrett); his former wife, Betty Harris Fennell; granddaughters, Dr. Monae Fennell of Macon, GA, and Lauren Fennell of Salem, VA; 2 sisters, Elberta (Bert) F. Joe of Waynesboro, PA, and Zenobia (Zee) N. Bailey of Roanoke; one aunt, Naomi Freeman; and a host of other family, and friends.

His funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment followed in Indian Rock Baptist Church Cemetery."
