- Helen Hairston was born in 1931 in Thorpe, West Virginia to Hurd and Lula Ann Johnson. She married George McLinnie Hash in 1949. They had eleven children: Thomas G. Hash, Charles F. Hash, Selma Dungee, John Hash, Gregory Hash, and Jane Phanelson, Jefforey Hash Sr., Glenda Hash, Clairessa Nicholson, Anita Hairston, and Stuart Hash. She married Bishop C. W. Hairston in 2003. Helen Hairston died on March 19, 2021 and is buried in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. She lived in Roanoke.
