Description
Johnston, Major John W. served in the Botetourt Artillery.
This Major formed a Memorial Committee and was able to add a memorial to our loss in the war in both Buchanan and Fincastle in 1902 & 1904 to honor of our soldiers who died in Gettysburg and other locations in the war, and were never brought back to Botetourt for a final resting place. After completion of this project he died inn 1905 and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.
