Description
An image of an obituary for Sarah McCarroll, who died on July 8, 1820 at the age of 23. Her obituary was published in The Herald of the Valley.
The obituary reads, "Departed this life, after a lingering illness of two years, which she bore with Christian fortitude, Miss SARAH McCARROLL, in the 23rd year of her age. In recording the death of this inestimable young lady, the pen most refines its offer, in delineating the many virtues which she possessed. Cut off in the prime of life, from all she held most dear, is truly distressing, but when we consider the manner in which she closed her earthly career, it affords a source of consolation the most pleasing. In the last stage of her fatal malady, she expressed a disposition to die, if it pleased the almighty to take her to himself, - she repeatedly assured those around her, of her willingness to die, pledging, that she 'felt convinced that her sins were washed away, through the redeeming blood of a Saviour', - that she was 'glad she was born to die.' How consoling the idea, may our life's end be like hers, For 'Blessed are they that die in the Lord.'
'Jesus can make a dying bed,
Feel safe as downy pillows are,
While on his breast I lean my head,
And breathe my life out sweetly there.'"
