A statement from Nancy Bigler Matolak, who provided the Bible to Botetourt County Libraries for scanning:
"I’d like to share a Family Bible that was recently given to me. Thanks to Rena Worthen for theBigler Bible FB groups because I was able to meet my 4th cousin Jeanne Douglass. Her 1st cousin, Norman Firebaugh, (also my 4th) had been given this Bible by an auctioneer years ago because the auctioneer didn’t sell Bibles and wanted them to go to family. When Jeanne told him that she was friends with a Bigler, he wanted to meet me and return the Bible to the Bigler Family. This Bible was purchased in Fincastle by Jacob Bigler (1784-1849) in 1823. Jacob and his sister, Susannah (1792-1871) never married and stayed with their parents, Mark Bigler (1747-1826) and Catherine Lease (1763-1832) in the cabin by the Haymakertown Cemetery. Mark Bigler was the first Bigler to settle in Botetourt County in 1785. This 200-year old Bible was purchased during his lifetime and most likely kept in his home during the last few years of his life. I am so grateful that Jeanne put me in touch with Norman and that he was willing to meet me and give me this Bible." - Creator
