In January the Galatia group were invited in return to join the Mt. Cornel Auxiliary for an all-day meeting with Miss Lizzie Persinger as hostess. At this time Mrs. Repass and Mrs. Jno. T. Bowman were also honor guests, and the book, “Star in the East” was reviewed by Mrs. Repass of Salem.


The March meeting was held in the home of Mrs. I. T. Smith of Gala. At this time new officers were elected and reports made for the year.


The Budget of $60.00 was met and a Budget of $40.00 was pledged for 1939-1940.

The average membership is 43. Sunday School is held each Sunday at 10:45. The usual annual picnic outing was held in August on Craigs Creek.

A lovely Christmas program was arranged and given under the leadership of Misses Lucille and Janice Wood on Christmas Eve.

Christian Endeavor is held each Sunday night. This work is disbanded during the extreme winter months. The programs follow the plan gound in the Christian Observer. The officers for this organization include: President–Arthur Thompson; Vice-President–Willie Golden; Secretary–Howard Thompson; Treasurer–Miss Anna Thompson. The members take turns in leading the programs.

The membership of Galatia Church is approximately 45 active members with 11 inactive, or those seldom heard from.

A revival service was held in June by Rev. Lehman of Roanoke. At this time the following members were added to the church roll: Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Thompson (just before the meeting), Anna Thompson, G. C. Thompson, Jr., Sarah Jane Jones, Edward White, and Frankie Thompson.
