Church officers 1936-1937:
Pastor: Rev. James A. Armstrong, Fincastle, Virginia
Elders: Mr. Howard E. McClung, Eagle Rock, Virginia, Mr. M. R. Morgan, Eagle Virginia, (Mr. Morgan was a delegate to the Southern Presbyterian Church in Augusta, Georgia)
Deacons: Ms. Ray Clapsaddle (died July, 1936), Messrs. William Hannah, Gala, Virginia, John J. Spangler, Gala, Virginia, J. W. Riddleberger, Eagle Rock, Virginia.
Sabbath School officers: Superintendent, J. J. Spangler, Assistant Supt., G. G. Thompason, Secretary and Treasurer, Miss Willie Golden, Bible Teacher, Eleanor Thompson, Assistant Bible Teacher, R. L. Graun, Intermediate Senior Teacher, Mrs. G. C. Thompson, Primary, Mrs. John Spangler, Beginners, Mrs. Ray Clapsaddle. The membership of the school is about fifty people. Special programs for the year were given at Easter, Rally Day and Christmas.
Christian Endeavor: President, Miss Eleanor Thompson, Vice-President, Brack Smith, Secretary, Mrs. Mable Thomas, Treasurer, Howard Thompson, Mrs. D. T. Smith, Music Director and Chairman of the Program Committee. Outstanding work for the year 1936. A piano was purchased and presented to the Church. Five dollars was given to current expenses of the church.
A delegate, Miss Eleanor Thompson was sent to the Young Peoples’ Conference at Massanetta, with expenses paid. Miss Janice Wood, another member of this League also attended this meeting. Approximate membership of the League is about 58 members. The programs designated for regular League work are used each Sunday Night.
Prayer Service is held at the Church during the summer and at different homes during the winter months.
The Auxiliary of Galatia is composed of two circles- one in the Gala neighborhood, the other in Eagle Rock. The officers for the past year were: President, Mrs. M. Edmond, Eagle Rock. Vice-President, Mrs. J. J. Spangler, Gala. Treasurer, Mrs. M. R. Morgan, Eagle Rock. Sec. Mrs. W. S. McClung, Eagle Rock.
The Birthday offering program in May was held in the church, at which time we were honored by having as guest speaker, the charming author of the Birthday Program, Mrs. T. C. Bales of Clifton Forge, Virginia.
Observance of the week of prayer and Self-denial in November with the study of Dr. Blakley’s book - “With Christ Into Tomorrow”. This was presented by Mrs. Whitley of Roanoke, at an all day meeting with Mrs. M. R. Morgan as hostess.
A Joy Gift Program was given in the church in December for Religious Educational and Ministerial Relief. This program being outlined for Women’s Work.
In February we observed the study of Home and Foreign Missions, by each member reading the book, “Congo Crosses” by Mrs. Kelleys Burger. This book was later presented by Mrs. Milton Morgan, who with Mrs. M. Edmond attended the Woman’s Conference at Massanetta this past summer.
In March the annual all-day meeting was held in the home of Mrs. J. J. Spangler as hostess, at this time all reports for the years were made and officers elected.
