My Dear Mrs. Bratton,
On Nov. 20, 1922 you sent out a call for material for the Historical Work undertaken by the Ladies’ Auxiliary and these papers were sent my Father as he is in his 80th year and was cognisant of most of our early, even Pioneer, Church History here. I gathered some material but could not locate the Early Church Records but am still on the hunt for them. The Book has already been printed and we no doubt are left out. Would it be possible to add to later should our History prove worthy I wonder?
I was for five years with Dr. S. D. [illegible] in Eastucky Loutain work and also have been two years in N. C., in Tenn. too, one in Va. and one in S. C. making eleven years in Southern Work. I was three years at [illegible]-In Hudson Bible School graduating there and worked also in the north for a time.
My sister was a Medic & Missionary under the Northern Board in China.
As my father and grandfather were [illegible] Elders in our churches here and my father was mainly instrumental in the Building of Galatia Church it would be a labor of love with us to compile date for a sketch of “Locust Bottom” church and her daughter “Galatia” (and gave the ground to build upon) no. also gave the ground for the Colored Church and cemetery, Rising Mt. Zion Church here. My Mother was a minister’s daughter and [illegible] far too and [illegible] Missions.
Mrs. W. S. McClung wished to prepare a paper for the meeting in Covington and I am sending all my notes.
The reason I’m not finished and did not cut the [illegible] in time I could not find the old books, but still hope they are in existence—and I am caring for my aged father and stepmother, she is also past 80 and I have my hands full now.
“Pioneer History” is most fascinating to me and I’ve found out from my Father a great deal of interesting matter concerning the old Locust Bottom church organized in 1795. Originally a German Lutheran church. The Centennial Service was held in 1895.
Some of her pastors were Davids, Coahoran, Riov, Fartal, Tan Desenter, Lyle, Huff.
“Galatia” has of two foreign Missionary Pastors, Dr. F. P. Price, China and Calvin Knox Cummins, Japan. You will hear from me when I find those Records.
