The membership of Galatia Church is about fifty, a number of which are children and some inactive members.

The Rev. John W. Bolick of Montvale, Virginia, held an interesting revival meeting in October. He was a good speaker and an inspiration to the church members. Joseph Benson Buhrman was taken into the church at the time. Since the meeting Mrs. White was joined by letter.

Though Galatia Church has a very brief history of its own, some of our boys are helping to make American History serving in our Armed Forces in all sections of the world. Arthur Thompson and James Correll are located on island in the Pacific, Bowman Jones is stationed in North Africa and

Graham Buhrman, a member of our Sunday School, is stationed in Meridan, Mississippi. These boys are all heroic soldiers, of which Galatia may well be proud. They have the interest and prayers of our group.

There have been several weddings in our congregation during the year: Graham Buhrman, Jr., to Miss Kathryn A. Coffman of Daleville, Virginia, in Meridan, Mississippi, on March 21, 1941; Arthur Thompson to Miss Ruth Sheets of Alexandria, Virginia, on April 25, 1942; Howard Lewis Thompson to Miss Janice Wood, both members of Galatia Church, who were married in the church on April 5, 1943, by Rev. Otis Brown, and on February 13, 1943, Mrs. Bessie Hannah Edmond became the bride of Mr. K. B. Stoner of Fincastle, Virginia.

On June 23, 1942, one of the elders, J. W. Painter, died suddenly of a heart attack while at his work in Gala. He was buried in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Johnson Painter, and one son.

On December 20, 1942, the ashes of Joseph Buhrman Carper of Washington, D. C., were interred in the grave with his mother, Mrs. Jennie Carper. He was the son of the late Whyndam R. Carper.

The average Sunday School membership is forty. The usual summer outing was held on the church grounds in September in the form of a picnic, to which all families of the neighborhood were invited. A very impressive Christmas program was given under the leadership of Mrs. D. T. Smith. A nice treat was enjoyed by all members.
