The most outstanding meetings were:

The July Meeting at which time Miss Julia Twyman of Fincastle and Mrs. Walter Carter of Roanoke were guest speakers.

In October Miss Helen Pemberton, Botetourt County Public School Bible Teacher, reviewed the Book of John for the Auxiliary.

In February, in the home of Mrs. Edmond, the mission book, “Sent From God” was reviewed by Mrs. W. S. McClung, assisted by the Pastor’s wife, Mrs. J. A. Armstrong of Fincastle.

The officers for the new year were not changed. the pledged budget of $50.00 was met and donation were made to the following causes: Birthday Offering, Evengelastic Service, held by Mr. Graham and for various other causes.

HISTORY OF GALATIA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
GALA, VIRGINIA, 1940-1941

Galatia is so small a country church that very little of historical value takes place. The membership is 68, with about a fourth of these inactive.

On the third Sunday in May our Pastor, Rev. James A. Armstrong, preached his farewell sermon before resigning to take up a new field of work in Hillsville. He had been with us for sixteen years and was loved by a host of friends. After the Reverend Armstrong’s resignation it was decided by the Montgomery Presbytery Committee on Home Missions to change the grouping of the local churches. This regrouping put Galatio into a circuit with Glen Wilton, Iron Gate and Sharon, thereby giving us as a pastor the Reverend Otis Calhoun Brown, who was pastor of the other churches at the time.

Mr. Brown is an earnest worker and has done an excellent work among his group. In September Mr. Brown was installed by Rev. Leslie Patterson, Rev. Camphor, of Covington and an elder of Clifton Forge.

On May 1st we lost one of our elders and the oldest and last male charter member of our church - Mr. Howard Ewing McClung.

New officers were elected in July. The following were installed: Mr. G. C. Thompson, Elder, and Messers. P. C. Stoutamire and Edward White, Deacons.
