MONTGOMERY PRESBYTERY
GALATIA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
GALA, VIRGINIA - 1942-1943
HISTORY OF WOMAN’S AUXILIARY
The Auxiliary had held regular monthly meetings, usually in the church.
In September Rev. Otis C. Brown, our pastor, reviewed the book, “While It Is Day”. At this time the Iron Gate Auxiliary met with our group.
Mrs. Logan of Roanoke, Virginia, a returned missionary from Japan, spoke in February. She was a delightful speaker and is most interested in her work. At this meeting the Glen Wilton and Iron Gate Auxiliaries were our guests.

Woman’s Auxiliary
WOMAN’S AUXILIARY
1943 - 1944
The Ladies Auxiliary held regular monthly meetings, usually in the church, but during the cold weather in the homes. The President, Mrs. D. T. Smith has done splendid work in planning programs and making the work interesting for all the members. The regular programs planned by the Committee were the basis for study.
Our Bible study has been capably conducted each month by Mrs. J. M. Painter. She is the Vice President of the Auxiliary. Her lessons are most interesting and show that she has spent much time in preparing them.
In the fall Mrs. O. C. Brown, the pastors wife, assisted by Mrs. Cummings and Mrs. Housman of Iron Gate, reviewed for us the book entitled Retrospect and Prospect. This meeting was held in the home of Mrs. Maude Woodson.
Many cards were sent to all of the neighborhood boys who are in the service of their country. Interesting replies were received.
The Birthday collection, which was $13.90, was preceded by a Pageant presented by ten members of the Auxiliary and Sunday School.
At Christmas the Auxiliary presented the Pageant “The Morning Cometh”, in memory of Miss Mildred Welsh, who has done so much in the preparing of literature for church work.
The Joy Gift from Galatia this year was $14.00.
Self-denial week was observed in February, at which time an offering of $15.00 was taken. A special offering was made at this time to buy Testaments for the boys in the service.
Although our group is small, we have been greatly blessed. We have been able to meet all of the calls, and have looked after the sick and afflicted.
