The Woman’s Auxiliary of Galatia Church is very small in number of members. We have had only an average of fourteen active members during the last church year.
Meetings were held in the homes, and as we live in such a very scattered territory the Circle and Auxiliary meetings were held the same afternoon. The usual date being Thursday following the first Sunday in the month.
The Auxiliary Programs were lead by Mrs. Bronson Wood, the wife of our Pastor. Our topic for the year was “I Want to Know”. Mrs. Wood is a gifted speaker, having had her training in the Assembly Training School. She makes her lessons instructive as well as an inspiration.
Our Bible study was on the Book of Isaiah. Mrs. J. M. Painter, our Bible teacher, is especially gifted in Bible study and she made these lessons a great inspiration to each of us.
The Foreign Mission book “Now is the Time” by C. Darby Fulton was read by each member and reviewed by our pastor Rev. B. O. W, ood at the regular preaching service. Each member also read “Home Mission Investments” by Dr. Robert Lapsley.
Besides meeting our pledges for the year to all causes our members are to be commended for the following: The Joy Gift of $11.25; Bar Relief (food, clothing, and money); a “Kitty Kit” was sent to China; a layette for a baby was given to a local mother; a blanket to a young mother; a box of clothing to the Mountain School; fruit, cards, and flowers to the sick in our neighborhood.
Due to Mrs. Kenneth Burroghs, our president, moving from our community, her mother, Mrs. Oscar Corell, Sr. vice pres. Became our president in September. At this time Mrs. H. E. Adkins was made vice president.
Our Secty. Mrs. D. T. Smith resigned in January and Miss Willie Golden was elected to fill the unexpired term.
At the March meeting held in the home of Mrs. Maude Woodson the reports for the year were made and the following officers were elected:
Mrs. Oscar B. Corell, Pres.
Mrs. H. E. Adkins, Vice-Pres.
Miss Willie Golden, Secty.
Mrs. W. E. McClung, Tres.
Mrs. Estelle M. Wood, Historican
Secretaries of courses were not changed.
Our members felt that even though we are few in number we have had a very great benefit from our working together in this work.

Woman’s Auxiliary 1947- ‘48
The woman’s auxiliary of Galatia church has met each month in the homes or at the church and held regular auxiliary meetings. Due to the fact that we are in such a scattered neighborhood we do not have separate circle and auxiliary meetings but have the one meeting serve both. The regular program for auxiliary work was followed. The booklet “Thy Will Be Done Now” was used.
Our bible teacher, Mrs. D. S. Wood, the pastor’s wife, made our work interesting and educational. She followed the booklet, “Emmanuel Studies in the Gospel” by Matthew.
The Home mission book, “From the Past to the Present” by S. P. Lapaley also the Foreign Mission book entitled “Committed Unto Us” by Willie Lamott were read and reviewed by Rev. Wood our pastor.
Besides meeting the pledges for the year our members are to be commended for the following: clothing sent to Mt. Missions; Joy gift and other donations to orphanage, and Sunny Side Home; contributions to church repair and painting; cards, flowers, fruit and visits to the sick and unfortunate.
On Tuesday, October 21, the Presbytery of Montgomery held a one-day stated session (210th) at Galatia. WIth perfect October weather the day was one long to be remembered. The church had been newly papered, painted and cleaned and one of our visiting ministers, Dr. T. C. Dales of Clifton Forge, wrote a lovely newspaper editorial entitled “Beautiful Galatia” which we appreciated.
The ladies of the church with the cooperation and help of the friends in our community served, after the traditions of the Old Dominion, a bountiful luncheon in the Lord Botetourt Club House in Eagle Rock. About one hundred visiting ministers, elders and friends were present.
This meeting also marked our 60th anniversary of our church. Only one charter member was present for this occasion, Mrs. Howard McClung, several others who united with the church the first year were also there. We had the pleasure of having our first student pastor with us at that time, Dr. P. Frank Price who is greatly beloved by our group.
The following are the newly elected officers for the new church year:
President Mrs. P. W. Stoutamire, Gala, Va.
Vice President Mrs. G. C. Thompson, Gala, Va.
Secretary Mrs. J. W. Traylor, Gala, Va.
Treasurer Mrs. Estelle Wood, Eagle Rock, Va.
