church as best they can and having some badly needed repairs made.

A beautiful new maroon carpet has been laid, the floor sanded and new inlaid linoleum put in the vestibule, these add a great deal to the beauty and comfort of our church which rightfully deserves the name “Beautiful Galatia” which was given it in a newspaper editorial written by Dr. T. C. Bales of Clifton Forge, recently.

Women of the Church 1951-’52

The women of Galatia feel, that even tho our past year has been rather trying and hard, in a way, that we have had a very successful years work.

Our President, Mrs. Raymond Adkins was forced to resign in June, due to the fact that her husband’s work had been transferred to another place and she and her family moved to Lexington, Va.

Mrs. Adkins was a kind hearted, sincere, thoughtful person and took a great deal of interest in her church. She was loved by all of our group and is missed a great deal.

Her place as President was filled by Mrs. K. B. Stoner. who is intensely interested in the work and is wonderful christian leader.

On April 5, 1951 our Secretary-Treasure Mrs. D. T. Smith (Nee Martha Beverely Jones) was stricken with a heart attack and died within a few hours. Mrs. Smith may well be called “a minister of music” of our Church and was especially gifted in the leadership of the young people. She will be greatly missed in our community and church. Mrs. Smith’s offices were filled by Mrs. B. L. Wood, our Pastor’s wife, as Secretary and Miss Betty Adkins as Treasurer.

In July we also had the misfortune to loose Mrs. B. L. Wood, who was gifted, willing, spiritual leader in our group. She was not only Secretary but Bible Teacher and always did any part of the work where she saw a need.
