Description
Galatia Church
Women of Church

She with her husband Reverend Bronson L. Wood moved to Burlington North Carolina. After his resignation in July, to preach in the Stony Creek Church. Both Reverend and Mrs. Wood were wonderful Bible Students and gave all of their time and energy to the work of the churches in his field. They were truly spiritual minded and gave many happy, encouraging hours to the sick and needed as well as those who attended church.

Mrs. Maude Woodson became Secretary after Mrs. Wood moved and finished the unexpired term.

For our Bible study the past year we used the Book-”Applied Christianity” a study in the Epistle of Jones by Samuel McF. Glasgow.

Our group had the pleasure of having our home mission study, “My Faith”, in a charming manner by Mrs. Oliver, of Clifton Forge. Mrs. Emette Chumley, of Covington, our district chairman was also a guest at this meeting which was held in the home of our President Mrs. Stoner. The ladies of the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, near us, also were guests at this luncheon meeting and enjoyed Mrs. Oliver’s review.

The foreign mission study “We Americans”, North and South was reviewed by leaders chosen from our group.

Even tho we are in numbers we are a group feel that we have been greately blessed and that the christian fellowship had meant much to each of us.

The following officers were elected at our last meeting:
Mrs. K. B. Stoner, President
Mrs. Emma Painter, Vice-President
Mrs. O. B. Correll, Secretary
Mrs. Estelle Wood, Treasurer
Mrs. Estelle Wood, Historian
Estelle M. Wood (Historian)

The meetings of the Women of the Church, were held each second Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the church or homes of the members.

Meetings of special interest to us were; May 21, 1952, in the home of Mrs. H. W. Rudisill at which time a program on “Winning Neglected Areas for Christ,” was given. This was the Birthday meeting and a social hour followed with a lovely birthday cake served by Mrs. J. M. Painter and Miss Betty Adkins, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of our group.

Mrs. William Smith III, of Buchanan, (our supply minister’s wife) reviewed for us the Book of Colossians in a most instructive, interesting manner. This meeting was held in the home of Mrs. E. B. Stoner on September 27, 1952. Other guests were: Mrs. K. S. Stinnett, Buchanan; Mrs. R. E. Chumbley and Mrs. Morris, Covington. Lunch was served.

The Home Mission studybook, Frontiers of Hope, was reviewed by individual members at our other meeting. This meeting was held in the home of Mrs. H. W. Rudisill in February.

The Foreign Mission study was, “Africans on Safari”. This study was divided into group work and presented in that manner in the home of Mrs. H. W. Rudisill in February.

The usual visits, cards, flowers, and other remembrances were sent to our aged, and sick and our work even though it be small was gently blessed- each individual woman felt an inner joy in the part she was able to contribute. Our “Joy Gift” of $65 was one of out most outstanding contributions.
