II. We have met in the homes on the first Thursday of each month at 2 P. M., but hoping to interest some more of our women we have decided to meet on the same date at night.
(b) Our programs have been based on the booklet “Our Church”. Leaders were appointed each month. Our Bible study on Psalms was given by Mrs. S. Y. Craig, one of our Baptist neighbors. This was both interesting and educational.
III. In June our church was fortunate in sending five of our girls to the Young People’s Conference in Massanetta. Our group bore the expenses of one delegate. They were Edith Geneva Hayslett, Betty Adkins, Barbara Nicely, and Nona King.
IV. One of our sustaining meetings was in October in the home of our President, Mrs. Stoner. She reviewed our Home Mission Book “Jacobs Ladder”. Another interesting meeting was in December with Mrs. H. W. Rudisill as hostess. At this time the Joy Gift Program was given. A contribution of $38.00 was made.
V. On April 13, 1953, Mrs. Rosa DuRant McClung, one of our oldest members, and for a long time our Historian, passed away at the age ninety-two. She was the daughter of James Sumpter and Susan Agnes China DuRant of Sumpter, S. C. After her marriage to the late Howard E. McClung she moved to Virginia where she spent the rest of her life. She was a charter member of Galatia and was a faithful, Christian Woman in our group. She is survived by two daughters and three sons. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. William Smith of Buchanan, with internment in Galatia cemetery.
VI. While we have fallen short of some of our ideals we have striven to unite in Christian fellowship all the women of our church and to promote the spiritual, social and financial welfare of our Church.
Estelle M. Wood. Historian

Women of the Church History - 1955
One of the major projects for the past year was to contact and encourage each woman of the church to become more active in the women’s organization. This has been truly an encouraging project and we feel greatly encouraged.
The time of meetings has been changed from afternoon hours to evening so that more of our business women can attend.
The church membership for women is thirty-four but prior to this we have only had an average of about ten active members.
The most outstanding project for the year was, to help in every way we could, to have our local Galatia Cemetery organization become self supporting or to be placed on a Perpetual Care Basis.
In May of 1953 a former member of Galatia Church, Mr. Wyndam Bean, of Stauton met with our group of church people and made plans for a temporary organization - officers were appointed - committees and groups selected to contact all persons anywhere who were in any way connected with this cemetery. Mr. Bean’s maternal ancestors were not only charter members of Galatia Church, but quite a number of his relatives are buried in the cemetery. The response to this new plan has been most encouraging and we feel that soon our community cemetery will be under a Perpetual Care Plan. Already there has been quite an improvement by clearing out some growth and pruning.
The grounds for the church years and original cemetery were donated at the time the church was built in 1886 by Mr. Benjamin Haden. Later a small plot was added, the gift of another former member of Galatia Church - the late Mr. Joe Carper, who is buried with his parents here.
The women of the church have contributed not only financially but have gladly served on committees and individually in this project.
Our programs for the year were based on the study of Acts, Words About Deeds. These studies were given by a leader chosen for each monthly meeting.
For special Bible study the book of Ephesians was used, accompanied by the book “The Glory of the Church.” This review was given by one of our new members for this year Mrs. Graham Buhrman, Jr. in her home on Sept. 9, 1954.
The Foreign Mission study on “Where Ere the Sun” and Home Mission selection, “Man and God in the City” were read by each member and discussed at our meetings.
