Our Church, as a whole congregation, has done much this past year to keep “Galatia Beautiful”. The church building has been painted white with green blinds and green roof. This is lovely against the tall evergreen trees at the back of the Church. An oil furnace has also been installed which is a comfort as well as a pleasure to our group. The women of the church have served on committees for these projects and have made contributions to each.

The young people of our church bought lovely maroon velvet drapes to separate the main auditorium to be used for church services.

Our retiring President, Mrs. K. B. Stoner donated sixty large Presbyterian Hymnals to be used for church services.

On September 8, 1955 our Pastor, Rev. C. E. Davidson reviewed for our special Bible Study the book, Love in The New Testament. This was an interesting study and was well attended by our women.

On October 9, Mrs. G. M. Buhrman, Jr. gave a review of You Can Witness, this was an inspiration as well as a challenge to each of us.

During the past year two of our women members have died. On May 28, 1955 Miss Olivia Deisher passed away in a nursing home in Clifton Forge. She has been away from her home at nearby Daggers Springs for several years but held her membership here where her parents had been charter members. She was buried in the Church Cemetery.

On January 7, 1956 Mrs. Ira Smith passed away in the home of her daughter in Clifton Forge. Mrs. Smith was 86 years old and had spent most of her life in our community. She is survived by 7 children, 24 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. She was buried in the Galatia Cemetery.

For the most part, our regular meetings were held in the church on the second Thursday in each month. The Presbyterian Woman’s Work Book was used and the programs on Forward in Family Life were followed. These suggestive programs were interesting and comparisons were brought our on Bible Home and Family Life Today, not only the spiritual welfare was taught but the lesson gave each woman opportunities to apply these teachings to our modern way of life.

One of our most inspiring experiences was our special BIble study of the Book of Deuteronomy. This meeting was in the form of a covered dish luncheon in the home of Mrs. C. M. Burhman, Jr. on June 27, 1956. Our guest speaker and teacher was Mrs. T. C. Bales of Clifton Forge, Va.

Through Mrs. Bales’ wonderful inspirational review of this study, we were given a great revelation of God. Definite challenges, which should be as natural responses from us, were brought out.

We followed the usual custom of sending cards, fruit and flowers to the sick, aged and shut-in. As Christian we also added to our lists with special food or dinners for all who were shut-in or lonely at this season of the year.

The group continues to be small but we fell we have had many inspiring blessing during the year and are thankful for them.
